📍 Remote
🕒 Central Time hours (11h to 20h BRT, 12h to 21h during US winter)
❗❗ Required
👉🏼 English – Advanced (daily standups and daily 1:1 with the CEO)
👉🏼 10+ Years Backend Development
👉🏼 8+ Years Python
👉🏼 5+ Years Google BigQuery and advanced SQL
👉🏼 5+ Years Google Cloud Platform in production
👉🏼 5+ Years ETL and data pipelines
👉🏼 Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools — HARD REQUIREMENT
🤖 About the AI requirement: the client expects daily use of Claude, Cursor or GitHub
Copilot to understand unfamiliar code, troubleshoot, write tests, refactor and build
frontend features without pulling in a separate frontend developer.
Strong professional experience with Python backend development and APIs in production.
BigQuery and advanced SQL on large historical and geographic datasets, with attention
to cost and query performance.
Google Cloud Platform in production: Compute Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub,
monitoring and load balancing.
ETL and data-processing pipelines, scheduled jobs, queues, background processes and
asynchronous workflows.
Data architecture, system design, performance optimization and debugging across source
data, pipelines, databases, APIs, infrastructure and the user-facing app.
Enough React, JavaScript or TypeScript to work productively inside an existing frontend
codebase. You do not need to be a frontend specialist.
Nice to Have
PostHog or other product analytics tools, with the habit of checking whether a feature
was actually adopted after launch.
Experience with geographic or time-series data.
Caching, pre-computation and data packaging for high-traffic applications.
❗❗ Description / Responsibilities:
What You'll Do
Our client is the leading source of housing market data for homebuyers and real estate
investors in the US, with more than 2 million users. The platform processes data across
30,000+ ZIP codes, 3,000+ counties and 50+ data points, with datasets going back decades,
and runs one of the most accurate housing forecasting systems in the industry. The company
is profitable and growing.
You will own:
* Python backend systems and APIs
* ETL and data-processing pipelines
* Advanced SQL and BigQuery workloads on large historical and geographic datasets
* Scheduled jobs, queues, background processes and asynchronous workflows
* GCP infrastructure: Compute Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, monitoring and
load balancing
* How data is precomputed, packaged, cached, compressed and served efficiently
* Performance, reliability, scalability and monitoring
* Frontend changes in React/Next.js/TypeScript, using AI tools to build components and
connect them to backend systems
* Selected features end to end, from technical planning to launch, analytics and iteration
A typical feature runs architecture, data pipeline, database, API, frontend, launch,
analytics review and iteration.
What We're Looking For:
This is a hands-on role. You will write code, investigate bugs, deploy solutions and
troubleshoot production systems yourself. Backend and data engineering stay your primary
responsibility, but the client wants someone who takes a feature across the finish line
instead of stopping once the API is done.
Shipping is not the finish line. You should care whether users actually adopted the
feature, how it performs, and what to improve next.
This role is not a fit if your experience is mainly data engineering without building
APIs, if your backend work has been mostly CRUD without large-scale data, or if frontend
is your strongest skill.
