Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer (Go/Python) | Remote | PST

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer to help build, operate, and scale our core Kubernetes platform. This is an engineering-heavy role designed for professionals with deep production ownership and hands-on coding expertise.
In this role, you won't just manage clusters via the AWS Console or basic CLI commands. You will write custom platform automation in Go or Python, build infrastructure tooling, execute zero-downtime cluster upgrades, manage control-plane reliability, and systematically debug complex networking, node condition, and container runtime issues in production.

What You'll Do
- Production Platform Ownership: Operate, scale, and maintain mission-critical, multi-region Kubernetes clusters with strict reliability requirements.
- Platform Automation & Tooling: Write production-grade code in Go or Python using Kubernetes client SDKs (client-go / kubernetes-python) to build custom controllers, operators, and operational scripts.
- Deep Systematic Debugging: Investigate complex control plane, CNI/networking, pod lifecycle, memory pressure, and node-level issues (NotReady, CPU throttling, kubelet hangs).
- Cluster Upgrades & Maintenance: Plan and execute zero-downtime Kubernetes version updates, API deprecation audits, and platform add-on rollouts.
- Observability & Reliability: Define platform SLOs/SLIs, analyze p95/p99 latency, optimize alerting, and lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for production incidents.
- Collaborative Escalation Support: Participate in an engineering on-call rotation, providing tier-3 support and incident response for globally distributed engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience operating and managing production Kubernetes infrastructure at scale (control plane, networking, ingress, storage, CNI).
- Strong programming fluency in Go (Golang) or Python, with proven experience using official Kubernetes client libraries (client-go or Python kubernetes client).
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes architecture & internals, including kubelet behavior, API server dynamics, etcd, CRDs, node conditions, and resource limits.
- Systematic Troubleshooting Skills: Demonstrated ability to debug complex, multi-layer distributed system incidents using application logs, distributed tracing, network metrics, and observability tools.
- SRE & Production Support: Practical experience with production on-call rotations, incident handling, MTTR/MTTD analysis, and writing post-mortems.
- Strong Concurrency Concepts: Practical understanding of concurrent programming models in Go (Goroutines/Channels) or Python (asyncio, multiprocessing, multithreading).
Nice to Have
- Experience developing custom Kubernetes Operators or CRDs (using kubebuilder or controller-runtime).
- Advanced container networking experience (e.g., Cilium, Calico, eBPF, or Service Meshes like Istio).
- Experience leveraging AI tools/agents to accelerate development and incident response workflows.
