Role Description The IT / Software Engineering Intern – API & Integrations role is a remote, contract position focused on supporting NYBANQ’s next-generation payments and digital asset infrastructure. The intern will assist in designing, implementing, and testing API-based integrations between internal systems, banking partners, and financial technology providers. Day-to-day responsibilities may include working with engineering teams to document integration requirements, troubleshooting connectivity and data flow issues, and monitoring system performance and reliability. The role also involves collaborating with product and operations teams to ensure integrations are secure, compliant, and aligned with business needs, as well as contributing to technical documentation and process improvements.
Qualifications
Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related STEM field.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, HTTP protocols, JSON structures, and Webhooks.
- Familiarity with API testing and documentation tools (Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Node.js).
- Familiarity with Git version control and GitHub/GitLab workflows.
Nice to Have
- Basic exposure to cloud environments (AWS), authentication protocols (OAuth / Auth0), or database systems.
- Interest in Fintech, Payments FBO, Banking-as-a-Service, and cross-border payment networks.
Soft Skills
- Excellent technical writing skills and strong attention to detail.
- Written and spoken fluency in English (proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus).
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
API Documentation & Developer Portal
- Build and maintain OpenAPI / Swagger specifications and Postman Collections for NYBANQ’s public REST APIs (Virtual Account management, payment origination for ACH/Wire/RTP, and Webhook notifications).
- Generate clear integration guides and multi-language code samples (Python, Node.js, cURL) for institutional clients integrating with NYBANQ.
Partner Integrations & Sandbox Testing
- Assist in testing, validating, and monitoring API endpoints with strategic partners and payment rails
- Execute end-to-end sandbox payload validations, document error handling, and verify webhook delivery.
Technical Support & QA
- Test client-facing onboarding flows and API routes, identifying technical edge cases or front-end/back-end discrepancies.
- Maintain internal technical documentation, architecture flowcharts, and developer knowledge bases.
